Best Laptops For SolidWorks in India with Buying Guide [2022]

Best Laptops For Solidworks in India for 2022 | Choosing the finest laptop for Solidworks might be a difficult task. Most users (such as engineering students) will work on projects that require nothing more than a consumer-grade laptop with a dGPU (approximately 700$), whereas some professionals (such as those working for an automobile company) may require a workstation laptop with a workstation GPU and plenty of vRAM (which can cost anywhere from 1500 to 4000$).

That’s when things get complicated… I’m not sure what kind of user I am. What hardware requirements will my projects necessitate? We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

However, there is a more pressing question…

Because Solidworks is such a versatile programme, different hardware requirements will be required based on the type of project.

Where can I acquire trustworthy and accurate information without spending tens of thousands of dollars on a machine that can’t handle the size and complexity of my models?

For starters, You may begin by visiting the official website, which will provide you with a list of authorised workstation laptops, and there is nothing wrong with their suggestions.

However, the official website only provides that information. They aren’t as detailed as you would like. They don’t inform you which workstations will provide you the most bang for your buck or if those big bricks are actually necessary. And there’s a good possibility you won’t.

So, what are your options ?

Talking to folks who have used the software on both conventional computers and workstations is the best thing you can do.

I’ll be honest, I don’t use Solidworks on a regular basis, but I do deal with projects of various sizes and scales on various machines from time to time.

So, based on the type of user you are (student or pro), the size of your projects (creating/modifying large assemblies with +1000 parts or simple parts+low assemblies with some drawing), or the tasks you perform most frequently (modelling, drafting, or rendering with simulations), I have a pretty good idea of what CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage specs you need.

Here you can find the Best Laptops For SOLIDWORKS in India based on what customers said. After comparing more than a dozen Laptop For SOLIDWORKS, we think HP Pavilion Gaming 9th Gen Intel Core i5 Processor 15.6-inch FHD Gaming Laptop (8GB/1TB HDD/M.2 Slot/Windows 10/NVIDIA GTX 1650 4GB/Shadow Black), 15-dk0263TX is the Best Laptop For Solidworks.

SolidWorks, released by Dassault Systèmes, is a solid computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) computer modeling software that runs primarily on Microsoft Windows.

Although it is possible to run SolidWorks on an Intel-based Mac with Windows enabled, this is not recommended by the application developer.

SolidWorks does not support Mac operating systems.

Minimum & Recommended System Requirements for SolidWorks

To get through the language and make things easier for you, I’ve created a table with the characteristics you’ll need for a model of a specific size.

If you want all the specifics, use the TOC to jump to the last section.

If this will be your primary tool for work, I believe it will be beneficial to understand why Solidworks requires this or that.

Beware It’s not only long, but also fairly technical, so you’ll need to know a few computer jargon ahead of time. If you’re new to computers, I’d recommend starting with my sidebar posts.

Anyways….

Student laptops (those just starting started with Solidworks or using the software for an engineering class) and professional laptops are the two categories of laptops listed here (those working for a company or just dealing with very large assemblies).

SolidWorks students do not need to purchase any workstations. They can get by with most gaming/consumer computers for less than 800 dollars.

Professionals should only consider purchasing workstation laptops after conducting extensive research and determining that they will require the specific features and stability of “workstation GPUs,” as they are likely to be satisfied with a consumer laptop costing more than $1,000, which is significantly less expensive than a good/recent workstation laptop.

This table isn’t completely comprehensive, but it should give you a good indication of the specifications you should be looking for based on the models you’re dealing with.

2. Dell XPS 9570 15.6-inch UHD Laptop

Dell XPS 9570 15.6-inch UHD Laptop

For professional SolidWorks users, the Dell XPS 15 9570 is one of the most compatible devices. While the processing components correspond to the insanely high firepower requirements needed to drive assemblies with more than 500 components, the aesthetics are, to say the least, also captivating.

You get a high-end Intel Core i9-8950HK processor in this notebook, best suited for modeling, drawing, drafting, and design. There are 6 HyperThreading cores to work with, which, including Photoview 360, can easily support more CPU-intensive SolidWorks indulgences. The turbo clocking rate of up to 4.8GHz is class-leading and helps you to easily handle complex calculations.

A consumer-grade GPU that still works well for entry-level professionals is the current NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

While only workstation-grade GPUs are recommended by the company, i.e. Dassault Systems, the 1050 Ti with Max-Q layout is also handy, particularly if you are mostly drawing, modeling, or even simulating with less than 100 parts in an assembly.

When it comes to models that are visually more complex, the 4GB VRAM is pretty effective. OpenGL 4.5 is also supported by the existing GPU.

Given the existing specs-sheet, the 1TB SSD storage module is also a pretty important addition. You get Windows 10 straight out of the box, in terms of OS.

4. Acer Predator Helios 300

Acer Predator Helios 300

Performance:- I wouldn’t recommend it to engineering students that just perform a few Solidworks projects (it’s too much for the normal senior project).

This laptop is designed for professionals and people working with models with more than 500 pieces, but it can also handle larger models depending on how you use it.

Again, this is probably overkill for students, and it’s more valuable for people working with SolidWorks on their own or as part of a SolidWorks focus.

A total of 16 GB of RAM should suffice. However…

If you ever become bogged down when increasing the mechanics of your simulation, you can update it to 32GB on your own, which will make a significant impact when working on far larger and more sophisticated projects. It is extremely improbable, at least in the foreseeable future, for anyone just getting started using Solidworks to run encounter anything like that.

Let me emphasise that this laptop has a consumer GPU, so you will lose some stability if you use it for SolidWorks, but if you want the same power as this model but with a workstation GPU, look at the last three laptops.

Hardware:- This year, I’d want to start with a 2060RTX laptop because the GPU has the best performance/money ratio and is the most ideal when it comes to performance vs. investment.

What I mean is that the 2070RTX will undoubtedly provide higher performance. The 2080RTX and possibly the new RTX 3000 series GPUs are on the way. However, the performance boost from a 1650 to a 2060RTX is dismal for such a small price increase. The leap from a 2060RTX to a 2070RTX/2080RTX, on the other hand, isn’t cheap and will set you back a lot more if you acquire it with the same CPU. However, a 2070RTX would be worthwhile (the extra 2GB vRAM will help way more than having more CUDA cores which is what the even more expensive 2080RTX has to offer).

Pros
  • 512 GB SSD
  • High system performance
  • Good battery life for a 17-inch gaming laptop
  • Rather comfortable keyboard
  • Great price for a GTX 1060 GPU
Cons
  • Sound system is below expectations
  • Only one free 2.5-inch slot available
  • Poorly designed cooling system
  • Only one USB-A 3.0 connector
  • SSD is SATA and no HDD included
  • No USB-C Gen 2 or Thunderbolt support

5. Surface Book 3

Microsoft Surface Book 3

If you need something portable to take with you wherever you go and money isn’t an issue, the Surface Book 3 is a great option.

This is a good alternative for both professionals and newcomers to Solidworks.

It is the most powerful portable machine capable of running SolidWorks, as well as the only official “approved” non-workstation laptop capable of running SolidWorks.

There are two variants to choose from: a 13″ model with a 1650GTX, which is ideal for students and has the same processing capability as the Acer Nitro 5.

The 1660Ti, which has roughly the same power as the 2060RTX, is also available in a 15″ variant (it has the same amount of vRAM just less CUDA cores).

Pros
  • Solid performance
  • Will get Windows 11
  • Very good battery life
  • Detachable screen with 3:2 aspect ratio
  • Beautiful design
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Gorgeous screen
Cons
  • Weak U-series processor
  • Tiny trackpad
  • Lackluster speakers

6. MSI WS66 10TMT-207

Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Intel 11th Gen Core i7

Finally, as of 2021, one of the most expensive and powerful workstations. Each of these firms’ most recent components are the 10th Core i9 and the RTX 5000 series.

In 2022, this is without a doubt the most powerful workstation laptop available (before the new workstation series come up which should be by the end of 2022).

So far, you’ve got the most powerful CPU series and the most powerful workstation GPU:

Core i9 CPUs typically contain 8 cores, which translates to 16 threads and a clock speed far above 5GHz. This will drastically cut rendering time; for example, a 500-part model will take less than 20 minutes to produce.

In terms of the GPU, you’ll get the most vRAM currently available on gaming cards! And, as you may be aware, vRAM is where the model’s data is stored.

However, as I previously stated, performance gains with both consumer and workstation GPUs aren’t significant when upgrading to more powerful GPUs. That may be true in the case of Revit, AutoCAD, and other 3D modelling tools, but in the year 2022… Solidworks is still not well programmed to take advantage of all of the power of today’s hardware. If you truly have the funds and want to minimise difficulties and lag with big scale assemblies (1000s), which you will have regardless, but which will be mitigated to some extent by the massive increase in vRAM and CUDA cores, this is the model to choose.

Pros
  • Outstanding performance and graphics
  • Long battery life
  • Sleek, portable design
  • Military-grade durability
  • Decent display and keyboard
Cons
  • Only one USB-A port
  • Fans run loud
  • Little bit Expensive

Buying guide for the Best Laptops For Solidworks

How Do I Choose the Best SolidWorks Laptops?

While shopping for one of the best laptops, there are a few specific characteristics and aspects to keep in mind: SolidWorks.

These aspects mentioned in this buying guide will solve all of your problems if you are unaware of them.

It will be lot easier for you to purchase the proper type of laptop if you keep these important points in mind. It will not only let you run SolidWorks on it with ease and efficiency, but it will also fit into your budget.

1. Storage and RAM

Another crucial factor to consider while shopping for a SolidWorks laptop is the amount of RAM.

A large amount of RAM is required because it will temporarily store your work and files. More memory allows for the storage of more files, allowing the CPU to access and extract them more quickly.

RAM comes in a variety of sizes, with a minimum of 8 GB being required for SolidWorks, while more is desirable for working and multitasking. It will also ensure the long-term viability of your system.

On the market, there are ideally two primary types of RAM. These are based on the assembly size, which is divided into two categories: large assembly size and small assembly size.

If you wish to store more files and work on larger and more complex files, a RAM with a big assembly size is a good option. This is usually the case while using SolidWorks. This won’t overburden the system and will allow for speedier processing.

When your gadget appears to be running out of memory, a large assembly RAM capacity comes in handy.

The tiny assembly RAM size, on the other hand, is sufficient for simpler tasks. It’s designed for high school and college students, not professionals. In terms of storage, a 256 SSD is adequate, but more is preferable if you work with large files. For speedier performance, however, consider an SSD or an SSD + HDD combined storage.

Although it is more expensive, it will fail less frequently and will not overheat the machine.

2. Processor

Make it a point to evaluate the processor of the laptop you wish to utilise for SolidWorks before making your decision.

Make sure it doesn’t just promise excellent performance; it truly delivers it. Only a high-performance processor will enable you to operate much more quickly on your PC.

The best processor will be found in a high-quality laptop. It does not, however, have to be an expensive gaming laptop.

The base and boost clock frequencies, which should be preferable 2 to 5 GHz, the number of cores, which should be at least four, and the generation, which should be 7th and above, are the features that distinguish a processor from the competition. A speedier CPU, such as an i5 or i7, will also assist.

3. Graphics card

If you wish to run SolidWorks without any issues, you’ll need a strong graphics card in your computer. The issue is that you may not be able to verify it directly because it is installed inside and difficult to remove.

As a result, when it comes to graphics cards, only workstation-grade models should be considered. SolidWorks will perform better as a result of this. These include the Nvidia Quadro with CUDA cores, AMD Fire Pro, and AMD Radeon Pro, to name a few.

4. Display

You’ll also need a laptop with a high-resolution monitor. Because you’ll be looking at it for the majority of the time, make sure it’s bright enough. It should ideally have a matte finish as well as anti-glare properties.

With a greater refresh rate and faster response time, the contrast and aspect ratio must also be good. To ensure that the visuals are clear and vivid, and that the colours are not distorted or drab, at least a full HD resolution is required.

A display with an IPS panel and a smaller bezel will provide wider viewing angles and more screen real estate for viewing and sharing.

5. Life of the battery

Another essential consideration is the battery life. This is because your device will spend a lot of energy when you run heavy applications like SolidWorks.

A weaker battery will have a shorter life and will be quickly depleted, resulting in a lot of irritation.

The battery life should ideally be between 8 and 10 hours, allowing you to work on it for the entire day on a single charge.

This will increase your productivity because you won’t have to seek for an outlet all of the time. Also, ensure sure it has a quick-charging capability.

6. Portability

Finally, consider the system’s portability. Though it should weigh no more than 5 pounds, since you are striving for higher specifications, you may not always be able to get one.

As a result, when deciding portability, think about your needs as well as the time and distance you’ll be carrying your system.

Before deciding to buy Best Laptops For Solidworks, make sure you research and read carefully the buying guide somewhere else from trusted sources. We will not repeat it here to save your time.

Hope this Best Laptops For Solidworks buying guide helps you choose the right product depending on your budget and personal requirements.

1. I have a laptop with integrated graphics card and i5 10th generation processor. is it useful to run solidworks?

Answer:- Yes, But may not work Properly.

2. Does solidworks supports for Tamilnadu government laptop?

Answer:- Please Check Specification above and Match with your current Details.

3. I have a 8 GB RAM 4 GB graphic card laptop but still solidworks hang when I use it. How to resolve it?

Answer:- Visit SolidWorks Forum for more information.

4. Does solidworks work in 14-cd0078tu model laptop?

Answer:- No.

5. What Is SOLIDWORKS?

Answer:- The SOLIDWORKS application is automation software for mechanical design that takes advantage of the popular graphical user interface of Microsoft Windows.

This easy-to-learn method helps mechanical designers to sketch ideas easily, experiment with characteristics and measurements, and create models and detailed drawings.

6. Why should I pay attention to the CPU and GPU in professional SolidWorks laptops?

Answer:- Because SolidWorks is a CPU and GPU intensive application, these are the most important components for professional use. For complex simulations, you’ll need a CPU with a higher Turbo clocking speed, cache, and ECC memory, as well as high-end workstation GPU models.

7. Is the role of cache memory in SolidWorks laptops important?

Answer:- Yes, it most certainly is. It will be simple to select computational data from the memory if the processor has a good cache memory. It will be faster to access than RAM, thus it will be faster to process. A machine should normally have at least 6 MB of cache memory for excellent SolidWorks performance.

8. When will it be possible to increase the RAM on SolidWorks laptops?

Answer:- SolidWorks will work smoothly on a PC with 8 GB of RAM when you first start. When you progress beyond basic modelling, simulations, sketching, rendering, and operational analysis, or when your assemblies grow in size, complexity, and the amount of faults, you’ll need to expand.

9. Is it possible to run SolidWorks on a laptop with a processor that does not support Hyper Threading?

Answer:- Yes, you certainly can. This is due to the fact that most operations initiated using SolidWorks are frequently consecutive. This means it will primarily use single threads. As a result, unless you use all of the processor’s cores at once for rendering big assemblies or multi-sheet drawing, Hyper Threading isn’t required.
